The Iredell County Partnership for Young Children and the Child Safety Taskforce of Iredell County are excited to announce the first annual “Explore and More Touch-A-Truck” event which will be held on Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Signal Hill Mall, located at 1684 East Broad Street, Statesville.
This free, family-friendly event will provide a unique opportunity for children and families to explore vehicles of all types -- including public service, emergency, utility, construction, transportation, and delivery —all in one place! Children will be allowed to touch and explore their favorite vehicles, get behind the wheel, and meet the people who help build, protect and serve our community. So, put your imagination in gear and go!
“This Touch-A-Truck event is a fun way for children to learn about, discover, and explore vehicles they have seen in movies, books, or just driving down the street,” states Lisa Pullis, program director at Iredell County Partnership for Young Children (ICPYC).
In addition to vehicles, certified child passenger safety technicians will be available to check car seats for proper installation and advise parents and caregivers how to choose the right car seats for their family and install them properly in their vehicles.
There will also be inflatables, food trucks, and live music for the whole family.
► The Statesville Fire Department and its fire safety smoke house will demonstrate the importance of having an up-to-date escape plan.
► The American Red Cross will showcase their Pillowcase Project and demonstrate hands on CPR and life saving skills.
► Iredell County EMS, the Novant Health medevac helicopter, and other vehicles that focus on safety in the community will be on hand.
► James River Equipment is apt to win the hearts of all the children with their John Deere tractor.
► There will also be a wide range of heavy equipment and on-the-job activities and demonstrations provided by G.L. Wilson Building Company, L. Gordon Iron & Metal, Pro Tow, North Carolina National Guard, Gander RV and many more.
To meet the needs of everyone in our community, there will be a “horn/siren” free hour from 9 to 10 a.m. There will be no flashing lights or loud noises during this hour to accommodate our visitors for whom such things may be upsetting.
