Special to SVLfreenews.com
ElderCenter Inc. will host its annual St. Patrick’s Day “Eat, Drink & Be Irish” Celebration on Saturday, March 16.
Scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Statesville VFW Post 2031 at 139 Jordan Lane in Statesville, this year’s event will include an Irish-inspired dinner and a cash bar (beer only or BYOB wine).
Entertainment includes live music by local blue grass band Backstreet and Irish dancing by the Delano Sisters, as well as prizes for Best Irish Costume, Best Green Costume, Most Freckles, Best Irish Brogue, Irish Trivia, and more.
Proceeds benefit ElderCenter Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to caring for our community’s elderly.
“All around the world, everyone is Irish on St. Paddy’s Day. It just makes sense that Statesville, with its rich Irish roots, should celebrate our history and culture as well with a unique and fun event," Executive Director Tammie Money said. "We want everyone, young and old, to enjoy the energetic music, the lively dances, and the rich culture from Ireland. We also encourage you to participate by sharing a story, song or dance throughout the evening.”
Scotch-Irish roots are strong in Statesville and Iredell County, many of our early European settlers in the 1700s were Scots‐Irish. The name Iredell is an offshoot of Eyredale, dating back to 1066 and meaning “a valley of flowing air.”
Rev. Tom Corbell, ElderCenter's board president, promised this year's event would be bigger and better.
“This is a fun, entertaining evening that also supports a great cause, helping aging individuals and their families with affordable daily care," he said. "Our staff is caring and compassionate with those we serve, ensuring a safe environment with lots of activities to keep our clients engaged.”
Tickets for this event are $20 before March 11 or $25 at the door and can be purchased by calling 704-873-0720 or purchased online at ElderCenterAdultCare.org. Seating is limited; please make your reservation early.
