The Carolina Farm Trust will host an afternoon of rock music, craft beer, and local food Sunday, June 5, at Primal Brewery in Huntersville to benefit local agriculture.

Charlotte-based folk rock artists Sinners and Saints and The Business People will play while delicious meals are provided by local farms—London Broil from Mary L Farm, a whole pig roast from Big Oak Farm, chicken from Rowland’s Row, as well as sides and produce all from local farms. Primal Brewery will be debuting their new Blueberry Wit, locally sourced from Millstone Creek Orchards in Ramseur.

This family friendly event is from 2-8 p.m. Admission is free, with food costing $10 a plate.

The event marks the first day of ticket sales for Carolina Jubilee, a two-day event scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct. 1 that will feature 21 folk/rock artists, local microbreweries, vineyards, and farm vendors, as well as the option to camp on-site at beautiful VanHoy farms in Harmony.

Proceeds from Carolina Jubilee ticket sales will go towards providing local dairy Mary L Farm with a pasteurization system. Mary L Farm was the first North Carolina dairy to be certified organic, and currently sells their milk through a larger company.

However, the family would like to be able to sell their local, grass-fed, organic milk directly to the community. In order to do that, The Carolina Farm Trust is helping them invest in pasteurization equipment that would allow consumers to directly buy from the local farm or market, without a middle-man corporation.

Part of the proceeds from Carolina Jubilee will also go towards helping The Carolina Farm Trust create an operating budget to be able to buy farmland before it is developed, put it in a protective trust, and lease it back to farmers. The land would be used in a responsible way to ensure its health and fertility, and to optimally contribute to the local community and economy.
