Iredell Memorial expands CardioPulmonary Rehab site
Iredell Health System has completed renovations to the building that houses its Cardiopulmonary services.
Located in the Outpatient Services building on the campus of Iredell Memorial Hospital, the renovations enlarged the patient space and will decrease the number of patients waiting to be admitted to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program.
“The expansion allows us to offer both Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation to the largest number of patients, provides a safe environment, and has adequate equipment to help patients achieve and maintain optimal health,” said Lisa Warren, Manager of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation for Iredell Health System.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a multidisciplinary program tailored to individual patients with chronic respiratory impairment, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), emphysema, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, and more. The program, which enables patients to function better in daily life, consists of individualized exercise training, nutritional counseling, and education on lung disease. It helps patients learn to manage their health conditions and teaches techniques to help conserve energy, breathing strategies, tobacco cessation, psychological counseling and/or group support.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a newer addition to the Health System’s growing service line, starting a year ago in February 2015. Before the addition of pulmonary rehabilitation, Iredell Health System only offered Cardiac Rehabilitation, a medically supervised, comprehensive program for persons with heart disease. Patients needing pulmonary rehabilitation had to travel to other programs more than 30 miles away – an inconvenience that Warren said made many patients opt out of treatment.
Seeing the need for the service closer to home, Iredell Health System added the program last year and has had a full waiting list ever since.
“Our Cardiac Rehabilitation program has supported the health and wellness of cardiac patients in Iredell County for 33 years,” said Warren. “We’ve seen great results with our Pulmonary program over the past year and now, with the renovated space, look forward to serving more patients and helping them lead healthier, happier lives.”
