Davis Regional Medical Center now offers Saturday colonoscopy screenings to meet patient’s need for flexibility and weekend treatment.
“We’ve found that many patients put off this potentially life-saving procedure because they are too busy with work and families. We decided to offer Saturday screenings to make taking care of yourself easier and more convenient,” said Cheryl Marlow, surgical services director at Davis Regional Medical Center. “You can now get this exam without having to take time off from your job.”
New age guidelines for colorectal screenings came out in 2018, reducing the recommended age for this preventative healthcare screening from age 50 to 45.
“A Saturday screening is a great opportunity for people who have trouble taking off work for procedures, especially younger patients who work full time. Patients can bypass the GI office visit and get a Saturday screening if approved by their primary care provider,” said Dr. Nikhiel Rau of Piedmont Healthcare’s Comprehensive Digestive Care Center. “This saves the patient time and money while focusing on their long-term health.”
The first Saturday screening was offered on August 17 and the next Saturday screening will be on November 9, continuing quarterly based on patient demand. Patients who qualify for a colonoscopy and who prefer a Saturday appointment should discuss this option with their primary care provider (PCP). Their PCP will work with the Davis Endoscopy Center and Dr. Rau’s office to schedule an appointment.
Patients are encouraged to talk to their primary care provider about this opportunity or to call the Davis Regional Medical Center’s Endoscopy Center at 704-838-7676 for more information.
