The long empty Kentucky Fried Chicken location in Trouman will get a facelift and new life when owner Gus Kazakos of Kostis Properties in Clemmons opens Dixie’s Fish & Chicken in the Food Lion Shopping Center.

Work is currently being done on the roof, which should be finished in about a week, followed by remodeling of the store’s interior. The opening target date is April 20, according to Kazakos, who will hire 20 to 25 employees for the location.

This store is the second in the area, with the original Dixie’s location opening in 2016 in Newton. Kazakos said Troutman residents frequent his restaurant there, which was part of the reason he chose this area for a new store.

He saw Troutman as a good market with the right demographics. Kazakos also liked the Lake Norman area and location of the restaurant in a popular shopping center in a growing, friendly town.

Kazakos plans to add a pergola to provide a shaded patio seating area for an outdoor dining option. The restaurant will have indoor seating for 64 customers.

The store will operate from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. The full-service drive-thru window will also provide customers with a quick meal pick-up option. Customers will also be able to order online.

A ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration are planned for some time near the store’s opening.

QUALITY FOOD AND SERVICE

In the business since 1973, Kazakos makes sure his family-friendly restaurants focus on quality customer service and a variety of tasty food choices, using recipes that his family has perfected over the past 35 years. He describes Dixie’s style as “fast casual dining with a Southern kick.”

The restaurants menu includes a variety of salads, chicken plates, burgers, and a wide variety of delicious shakes. The seafood menu features baby flounder, perch, pollock, and shrimp options, served with fries, slaw, and hushpuppies.

In addition to burgers, Dixie’s offers five different PoBoy sandwiches as well as fish fillet and grilled chicken sandwiches, and a grilled chicken bites hoagie. The grilled or steamed hot dogs come in unique styles, including Chicago, Reuben, Wisconsin and New York, in addition to the traditional Carolina dog with mustard, chili, slaw and onion.

Customers can also save by ordering family value packs of perch, flounder, shrimp, tenders and chicken bites for four (including the sides) or ordering large catering packs (of up to 100) of Dixie’s chicken tenders for parties. Kids meals are also available.

Other sides include pinto beans, mac and cheese, apple sauce, Texas toast, and green beans, all of which can also be ordered in larger quantities for parties or catering.
