Coming Soon: Pelican's SnoBalls
BY HALEY JONES
Temperatures may be on the rise, but things are about to get cooler in Downtown Statesville with the arrival of Pelican’s SnoBalls on August 12.
The franchise, owned by Denard and Gabrielle Houey, will open in the freshly painted building at 232 North Center Street.
Pelican’s SnoBalls, named after the Louisiana state bird, is a take on the original New Orleans snowball, combining “the perfect blend of snow and flavor.”
The location will feature a walk-up window and outdoor seating fitted with pink umbrellas. There’s room out back for yard games and family fun.
The snowball shop will offer more than 100 flavors of SnoBalls. Traditional flavors like cherry, grape and homemade vanilla will be available, along with less common flavors like coffee, fireball, dill pickle and toothpaste.
Gabrielle’s favorite flavor, and a popular-favorite among Pelican’s SnoBalls fans, is Tiger Blood, which is a mixture of coconut and fruit flavors. Pelican’s SnoBalls is also known for its unique presentation with flavors such as Butterfly Kiss, which sports a gummy butterfly, and Shark Attack, which is topped with a sour, gummy shark.
In addition to Pelican’s SnoBalls shaved ice, the shop also offers “snocream,” which is a cream liquid used to top the shaved ice, and the option to “stuff” your snowball, which means packing a scoop of ice-cream between the ice and syrup.
OPENING AND HOURS
A soft opening is tentatively set for August 11, but the shop will officially open on August 12. Hours will be Monday through Saturday, from noon to 9 p.m. and Sunday, from 1-8 p.m. The shop will be open seasonally, between February and October, depending on the weather.
