NCDOT planning roundabout for Troutman intersection

The N.C. Department of Transportation is planning to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Cornelius Road, Liva Lane and Perth Road in Troutman.

There were 37 crashes at the intersection over a 10-year period, according to a study conducted by the traffic engineer for the region.

“NCDOT safety and congestion management staff analyzed this intersection, in relation to the accident rate and operational issues with traffic,” Jen Thompson, NCDOT Communications Officer said. “A roundabout was recommended for this location to reduce accidents and to improve traffic flow through the area.”

The Town of Troutman will host a public meeting at the Troutman Town Hall, located at 400 North Eastway Drive, on April 21. Concerned citizens may attend at any time between 5 to 7 p.m., to review the renderings, speak with NCDOT staff and offer comments about the project. There will not be a formal presentation at this meeting. Any comments received at the public meeting, or comments that are submitted to NCDOT before April 21, will be considered in any future decision-making.

Other roundabouts set to be constructed in Iredell County include the roundabout at Five Points (at Davie Avenue/Sullivan Road) and the Sullivan Road/Free Nancy Avenue roundabout. Both of those projects are in Statesville.
