Statesville Christian volleyball, boys soccer teams get championship rings

Statesville Christian School held a special state championship ring ceremony on Wednesday afternoon to honor their varsity volleyball players and varsity boys soccer players for capturing state titles this season.

This is the third consecutive state championship in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1A division for the Lady Lions volleyball team. They finished with a 25-1 record. They are coached by Abby Dunlap, a former Lions volleyball player, and assistant coach Brittani Cartner.

The girls volleyball players are:

  • Hannah Ellis
  • Jenae Baker
  • Amy Holchin
  • Bella Terblanche
  • Jordan Ellis
  • Addie Haywood
  • Aasia McNeill
  • Anna Blue Bentley
  • and Taylor Osborne.

The varsity boys soccer team earned their first N.C. Independent Schools Class 1A state title and finished with a 16-4 record. They are coached by Kelly Taylor and assistant coach Kevin Hope.

“In the history of our program, we never even had a team make a championship … much less win it in boys soccer,” Taylor said. “It’s a very good end of the season.” In particular, their win against their rival school, Hickory Christian, was a “huge accomplishment” for the boys this season.
