Prep Soccer: Vikings, Warriors win playoff openers

South Iredell High's boys soccer team knocked off Enka 4-2 on Wednesday night to advance to the second round of the NCHSAA Class 3A soccer playoffs.

The Vikings (11-8-1) trailed 1-0 early, but rallied to tie the game before halftime and then netted three second-half goals to win.

Thomas Moreno scored twice for South Iredell and Lucas Horton and Jarod Amstein each added a goal.

The Vikings, the No. 15 seed in the West Region, will travel to Waxhaw on Saturday night to face No. 2 seed Marvin Ridge (17-3-1). The Mavericks defeated Central Cabarrus 5-0 on Wednesday to set up the second-round clash.

• WEST IREDELL 1, WILKES CENTRAL 0: The Warriors, seeded No. 26 in the West Region of the Class 2A playoffs, shocked No. 7 Wilkes Central to advance to the second round.

West Iredell (10-11-2) will travel to No. 10 Lake Norman Charter (13-5-2) on Saturday night. The Knights routed Maiden 10-1 in the first round on Wednesday.
