Prep Soccer Roundup: Greyhounds take down Indians; Warriors suffer road loss

The Statesville High School soccer team exploded for six second-half goals on Monday against visiting St. Stephens night to turn a close contest into a 7-0 win.
Senior Toni Pineda gave the Greyhounds (3-2-1) a 1-0 lead when he converted a penalty kick with about 10 seconds to play in the first half.
Coming on the heels of a pair of shutout losses over the weekend, the PK was Statesville's first goal in more than 258 minutes, dating back to the Greyhounds' first-half goal in a 1-0 win over T.C. Roberson on August 21.
After the half, the Greyhounds' offensive proved to be too much for the Indians (3-2) as Pineda added three more goals, senior Austin Labretone had two and senior Zach Nicholson one.
Junior Milton Mungia had two assists for Statesville, while junior Dawson Sprinkle, sophomore Garrett Potemry and Pineda each assisted on a goal.
Greyhounds keeper Josh Fuhrman recorded five saves as the Greyhounds defense notched its second shutout of the season.
Next up: Statesville returns to action Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. as Lake Norman Charter visits Greyhound Hollow.
• Lake Norman Charter 5, West Iredell 1: The Warriors continued to struggle on the road as the dropped a nonconference game in Huntersville.
West Iredell (1-3-2) fell to 0-3-1 on the road as the Knights built a commanding four-goal lead in the first half. Senior Collin Petty scored twice to lead Lake Norman Charter (2-1).
The Warriors have been outscored 13-2 in their last two games.
Next Up: West Iredell hosts West Forsyth at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
