The North Iredell varsity boys soccer team fought back from an early deficit to defeat West Rowan 5-3 on Wednesday night to earn an important North Piedmont Conference win.
After conceding the goal, the Raiders (9-4-2 overall; 5-2-1 NPC) went on a tear, scoring four unanswered goals.
West Rowan was not finished, however; and pulled to within 4 to 3 halfway through the second half.
North Iredell sealed the result with an insurance goal with 10 minutes to play when Travis Wilcox completed a hat trick on an assist from Ezra Moorefield.
Patrick Frye and Josue Rodas each added a goal for the Raiders with assists from Dylan Coltrane and Zack Pope.
North keeper Scout Hix turned in a stellar performance with 16 saves, including an amazing tip and grab as he fell to the pitch with the ball. Hix recorded more than 40 saves this week in games with Statesville High and West Rowan.
The Raiders are tied with South Iredell for second place in the NPC heading into Monday's showdown at South Iredell. The first- and second-place teams earn automatic NCHSAA playoff berths.
With the loss, West Rowan fell to 3-5 in conference play and 3-11-2 overall.
In other games Wednesday:
