Prep Soccer: Lions knock off pair of 2A opponents

The Statesville Christian Lions boys soccer team faced added a pair of wins to their ledger this week with wins over 2A opponents Westminster Catawba Christian School from Rock Hill, S.C., and Christ the King Catholic High School from Huntersville.


In the first game of the week against WCCS, the Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half courtesy of goals from Seth Holland, Jaden Durham and Nic Nantz. In the second half, Adam Cronce and Durham scored for the Lions. Dylan Sutton and Patrick Ferguson split time in goal, recording four saves each. Pearson Bonnett, Caden Mather and Jon Teague recorded assists in the game.

SCS 9, CTK 0

Thursday afternoon SCS faced former conference foe Christ the King. Nic Nantz started the scoring for the Lions when his shot deflected off the back of a CTK defender and into the goal. Goals by Seth Holland, Danny Haarmann and Adam Cronce completed the first half as the Lions went into halftime up 4-0. In the second half Nantz, Haarmann, Dylan Sutton (2) and Austin Campbell scored for the Lions. Sutton and Patrick Ferguson split time in goal, making four and six saves, respectively.

Next Week

The Lions start conference play on Monday against University Christian School and travel to Calvery Baptist School on Tuesday.
