Prep Basketball: Lady Lions win conference opener

The Statesville Christian varsity girls basketball team defeated the SPAA Conference opponent University Christian 75-32 on Tuesday evening.

Junior Mallory Sherrill led the way for the Lady Lions with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, one steal and three blocked shots.

Senior Jordan Peters added 15 points, four assists and four steals, and junior Aasia McNeill contributed 13 points, six assists and five steals. Senior Amy Holchin scored 12 points on perfect six-for-six shooting and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Lady Lions never trailed in the game and were up 35-20 at halftime.

Statesville Christian improved to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the SPAA.

The Lady Lions travel to eastern North Carolina on Friday to take on the Wayne Country Day in Goldsboro. On Saturday afternoon they travel to Wilson to face the Greenfield School.


• SCS 66, Vandalia Christian 20: Junior Jordan Ellis scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Lady Lions to a nonconference win.

Junior Anna Blue Bentley made five three-pointers and finished with 17 points to help Statesville Christian improve to 6-0 on the season.

The Lady Lions never trailed in the game and were up 45-15 at halftime.
