Middle School Soccer: Lions rack up three impressive wins

The Statesville Christian middle school soccer team rolled to three impressive wins in three matches as they improved to 5-1 on the season.

September 21

• SCS 6, Hickory Christian Academy 1: Six different Lions scored as Statesville Christian knocked off a conference rival in the road.

"This game was really big for our eighth-graders who have never beaten HCA," Lions coach Kevin Hope said. "They played with a determination that I haven't seen since I've been coaching at SCS."

Isaac Tew scored in the game's first minute to give SCS a lead it would never relinquish. Will Moore, Eli Mather and Conner Hope added scores in the first half as the Lions took a 4-1 lead into the half.

Kayce Taylor and Nathan Cone found the back of the net in the second half.

Kyle Holland had two assists and Hope and Tew each assisted on one SCS goal.

Taylor and Hope split time in goal and recorded a total of three saves.

September 25

• SCS 8, Tabernacle Christian 0: Conner Hope had three goals and two assists as the Lions cruised in a nonconference match.

Kelton Elliott added a pair of goals and Will Moore, Ethan Gragg and Kayce Taylor each scored once for SCS. Kyle Holland had two assists.

Hope and Taylor combined for the shutout in goal.

September 26

• SCS 9, Tri City Christian 0: Conner Hope and Will Moore had three goals each as the Lions rolled to an easy nonconference win.

Kayce Taylor added two goals and Caleb Stutts rounded out the scoring for SCS. Austin Ballard had three assists.

Taylor and Gracie Brooks combined for the shutout in goal.

"I ask them to not let the last game to be their best," Hope said. "So far they have done just that."
