Iredell County Sports Hall of Fame Holiday Classic tips off Wednesday

The inaugural Iredell County Sports Hall of Fame Holiday Classic tips off Wednesday morning at Mooresville High School.

The tournament features an eight-team girls bracket and eight-team boys bracket. North Iredell is the top seed in the girls bracket, while South Iredell earned the top spot in the boys bracket.

Boys and girls teams from North Iredell, Statesville, West Iredell, South Iredell, Lake Norman, Pine Lake, Mooresville and Carolina International are participating in the three-day event, which concludes with championship games on Friday evening.

Tickets are $5, with proceeds benefiting the participating schools.

Here's a look at Wednesday's first-round games and all eight teams in each bracket:

GIRLS

First Round

Wednesday, Dec. 27

No. 3 Mooresville vs. No. 6 Lake Norman, 9 a.m.
No. 2 Statesville vs. No. 7 South Iredell, 12 noon
No. 4 Pine Lake vs. No. 5 Carolina International
No. 1 North Iredell vs. No. 8 West Iredell, 6 p.m.

The Teams

North Iredell girls are 9-2 and coming off 61-39 thrashing of West Wilkes on Dec. 20, which came on the heels of a tough 57-55 loss at Lake Norman on Dec. 18.

Statesville girls are 8-2 and are riding a four-game winning streak, including a 60-49 win over Alexander Central on Dec. 20. Junior Danasia Gray leads the Greyhounds in scoring with 17.2 ppg while sophomore Tyaysia Sharpe contributes 9.9 ppg.

South Iredell girls are 1-8 and have lost five straight games, including a 62-38 setback against East Lincoln on Dec. 20.

West Iredell girls are 2-8 overall and coming off 56-45 loss to St. Stephens on Dec. 21.

Pine Lake girls are 5-4 overall and looking to rebound from a 78-72 loss to Union Academy on Dec. 15. Senior Caroline Coleman leads the Pride in scoring with 18.9 ppg, while junior Triniti Lockhart averages 7.3 ppg and 4.0 apg.

Carolina International girls are 3-8 and have lost two straight, including 75-21 mauling at the hands of Union Academy.

Mooresville girls are 6-3 following a 54-49 win over West Rowan on Dec. 18. That win came on the heels of 33-29 win over rival Lake Norman. Junior Alecsai Allen leads the Blue Devils with 11.3 ppg and 5.1 rpg., while senior Taylor Cullen averages 10.6 ppg.

Lake Norman girls are 3-7 and coming off 57-55 win over North Iredell at Olin on Dec. 18. Senior Lauren Sullivan leads the Wildcats in scoring with 15.1 ppg, while senior Rose Scheimer averages 11.1 ppg.

BOYS

First Round

No. 2 Lake Norman vs. No. 7 West Iredell, 1:30 p.m.

The Teams

South Iredell boys are 7-2 and have won two straight, including a 80-76 win over East Lincoln on Dec. 20. Junior Ty Everhart scored 21 points and junior Holland Dowdy added 17 in the win.

Statesville boys are 4-6 and coming off a 72-35 win over Alexander Central 72-35 on Dec. 20.

North Iredell boys are 3-8 following a 73-61 win over West Wilkes on Dec. 20

West Iredell boys are 2-8 and have lost two straight, including a 57-46 loss on Dec. 21 at St. Stephens. Junior Hayden Blohm averages 20.6 ppg and 5.2 assists per game.

Lake Norman boys are 7-3 and have won three straight games, including an 80-54 win over North Iredell on Dec.18. Junior Zane Haglan leads the Wildcats in scoring with 15.3 ppg, while junior Demarcus Johnson averages 12.9 ppg and 6.9 reb game.

Carolina International boys are 5-5 and have lost two straight, including 78-73 loss to Union Academy on Dec. 19.

Pine Lake boys are 4-4 and have won three straight, including a 72-44 win over Christ the King on Dec. 19.

Mooresville boys are 1-8 and have lost seven straight games. Senior Seth Welch averages 12 ppg and junior Griffin White averages 11.7 ppg.
