Get Fit at annual Community Dodge Ball Tournament

It’s time again to gather friends, family, and co-workers to team up for an afternoon of fun at the free Get Fit Iredell Community Dodgeball Tournament.
The tournament is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center (1875 Simonton Roadd, Statesville). The event will field teams of six to eight players (age 10 and up), at least two of whom must be female.
“It’s a lot of fun,” said Richard Grigg, program director at Statesville Recreation and Parks Department. “This is the third or fourth year we’ve done it. I think everybody growing up played dodgeball at some point in time.”
“It’s quick and fast paced -- not a huge time commitment, but it is active. It’s something that a broad age range of people can do together. It’s a good time to get out and do something different.”
The Get Fit Iredell coalition sponsors fun, active events, such as its April Dance-A-Thon and May Family Frenzy, to promote the enjoyment of exercise in a social setting.
“I think people look at exercise a lot of times and are like ‘I don’t want to run,’ so we try to show them there are a lot of things you can do that are active and fun. It takes the monotony out of exercising,” Griggs said.
Participants can create team uniforms to express their personalities and spirit to increase their team spirit. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to get involved and have fun!
Teams should register by Wednesday, Jan. 24. Forms are available online at http://www.co.iredell.nc.us/273/Physical-Activity
Completed forms can be emailed to Griggs at email@example.com or returned to the Statesville Fitness & Activity Center.
Team check-in will open at 1:30 p.m. All players will be required to sign a release form prior to playing in the tournament.
