Melvin Dean Lapish, 59, of Union Grove, passed away Monday, October 2, 2017, at his home.

Mr. Lapish was born in Iredell County on January 5, 1958, and was the son of the late Raymond Lee Lapish and Betty Lingafelt Lapish. He was a graduate of North Iredell High School.

Mr. Lapish was married to Kathy Wooten Lapish, who survives.

He was self-employed as owner/operator of Lapish Siding & Home Improvement for over 25 years.

Melvin was a man who loved life. He found pleasure in outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, farming and most recently, bee keeping. He was born in the city but was country at heart. He loved to cook and was exceptional at it. Melvin was a joy and blessing to all and could lift the spirits of people by walking into the room. Melvin had a servant’s heart. He loved people and helping anyone in need. Through his illness, he was a champion, a fighter, and a warrior. Most of all, he loved his wife, his family, and his Lord. He will be truly missed by all who had the joy of knowing him.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Kathy Lapish, of the home, son Stephen Anderson, a brother, Allen Lapish (Jill) and sister, Melissa Poteat (Kenny), all of Statesville. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service honoring the life of Melvin Lapish will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, at Calvary Baptist Church in Union Grove. Burial will be at a later date. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service at the Union Grove Community Building.
