Stony Point VFD presents awards at annual banquet

Stony Point Volunteer Fire Department recently held its Annual Banquet with the theme being “We Love Our Hometown Heroes.” Special recognition was shown to all the firefighters, medical responders, ladies auxiliary, the Board of Directors, and honored guests. A slideshow representing SPVFD activities from the past 60 years was also shown during the event. Boxcar Grille in Claremont was in charge of the catering.

This year special years of service Maltese Cross plaques were presented for 60 years of service to SPVFD Board member and former Chief Carlton Crouch and Board Member Jerry Hager. A 45 years of service Maltese Cross plaque was presented to SPVFD Board member and former Chief Steve Lackey.

Award winners for the 2017 year included: SPVFD First Responder Award presented to Justin Combs; SPVFD Firefighter Awards presented to Josh Prevette and SPVFD Lt. Jacob Abernathy; SPVFD Officer’s Award presented to SPVFD Lt. Carl Huntington; SPVFD Chief Awards presented to Jimmy Terry and Colby Cockrell; and SPVFD Ladies Auxiliary Awards presented to Connie Meredith and Savannah Prevette.

The SPVFD Ladies Auxiliary also presented an Honorary Award to SPVFD Board Member Nate Dalton for his continued support of the Ladies Auxiliary. Department bookkeeper and Secretary Donna Cockrell was thanked for her time and dedication.

Additional thanks was given to all those who have shown love, support and dedication to SPVFD and to the community during events from the past year. The department can only do what we do with the support of local businesses and community volunteers.
