Statesville teen faces gun, drug charges

A Statesville teen faces felony prosecution on a weapons charge following his arrest this week, according to an Iredell County Sheriff's Office news release.
Deputies with the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team received information that three males were in the area of East Front Street Statesville possibly attempting to break into vehicles around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in the news release.
Sgt. R. Sherrill responded to the area and located the three males matching the description given by a caller, Campbell said.
While speaking with the individuals and after further investigation, the sergeant discovered that Kieyon Kesean Murdock, 17, of Connor Street, Statesville, was in possession of a stolen firearm and marijuana, according to the news release.
The teen was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed gun, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Murdock was also served with an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on an assault and battery charge, Campbell said.
He was taken before and Iredell County Magistrate, where he received an $8,500 bond.
