SPD investigating early morning shooting at Gay Street home

The Statesville Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning at a home on Gay Street.

SPD officers who were working in the area heard shots being fired about 1 a.m., but were unable to find any evidence of a shooting, Capt. Bryan Johnson said in a news release.

A short time later, a victim suffering from a gunshot wound arrived at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Johnson said.

The victim, who was later transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center via ambulance, is expected to recover, according to the news release.

Police determined that the victim had been shot while at a party in the 1900 block of Gay Street, Johnson said.

A crime scene was located and SPD investigators responded and continued the investigation and processed the crime scene.

This investigaation is ongoing, Johnson said.
