Elderly man assaulted during home-invasion robbery

An 81-year-old man was injured during a home-invasion style robbery in the 300 block of Stockton Street early Tuesday morning, according to the Statesville Police Department.
Two suspects kicked in the back door of the victim's residence about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, Capt. Bryan Johnson said in a news release. After entering the home, the suspects assaulted the man and robbed him of cash, Johnson said.
The victim was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, but later released with only minor injuries, according to the news release.
The suspects were described only as black males armed with handguns.
Police are investigating whether an earlier incident was connected to the robbery. The victim said someone banged on his door about 10:45 p.m. and was possibly trying to kick the front door in, according to the news release.
The person at the door was described as a black male, about 5-foot-11 with a slim build, and groomed facial hair. He was wearing a dark shirt and tan jacket.
The SPD is investigating the following crime reports:
• Breaking & Entering/Larceny from a Residence, 400 block of Fayetteville Avenue, May 13-15: Residence had been damaged by fire. When resident went by to check on house, discovered someone had broke in and stolen a tool box with tools and a green leaf blower. Suspect(s) also broke window on victim’s vehicle, but nothing stolen from vehicle.
• Breaking & Entering/Larceny from a Vehicle, 100 block of Jobe Drive, May 12 or 13: Suspect entered unlocked vehicle, stole notary stamp and notebook.
• Larceny of vehicle, 400 block of Kings Grant Court, May 14 or 15: Vehicle stolen overnight. No signs of broken glass or forced entry. Vehicle is a 1997 Honda Accord, Silver, NC tag# NNL-5482.
• Breaking & Entering/Larceny from a Residence, 100 block of Buena Vista, May 15: Suspect kicked in back door, stole a 50-inch Dynex TV, a 42-inch TV, and a PS4 w/ 3\three controllers.
