Trinity Fire Department officials broke ground on a new $4.2 million station house on Saturday morning.
Construction on the new 24,000-square-foot facility is expected to take 12 months.
The facility will house Trinity Fire and Iredell County EMS, and have space for the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and Iredell Rescue.
The facility will be built on four acres next to Yadkin Baptist Church. In 1961, around 100 citizens met in the church on Highway 115 to discuss the organization of a volunteer fire department for the surrounding community.
Later that year, a building committee formed met at Whites store, which is located across Highway 115 a short distance from the Yadkin Baptist Church, and decided on the current location at 2997 Wilkesboro Highway.
Trinity Fire Department currently has 45 volunteers.
