Mattie Meech was honored with the 2017 Excellence in Service and Giving Award, presented by the Mitchell Community College Foundation and Endowment for Excellence at the inaugural President’s Circle Dinner, on Thursday, November 30.
Mrs. Meech came to Statesville from Michigan with her late husband, Paul, nearly six decades ago when he accepted the position of CEO at Kewaunee Scientific Corporation. The couple quickly became involved in many civic organizations and were active in their community.
Mrs. Meech joined Mitchell’s Endowment for Excellence Board of Directors in 2005, serving as an active member until 2017. She was voted director emeritus this year by the board in honor of her long and faithful service. Her service to the community, college and students along with her strong philanthropic spirit were honored.
“Mattie Meech is a leader among leaders, an example of how a life of philanthropy adds up to an extraordinary measure,” said Mitchell president Dr. Tim Brewer.
The Excellence in Service and Giving Award honors a donor to the Mitchell Community College Foundation and Endowment for Excellence who has shown dedication to the College and community.
