Five men face charges after SPD seizes marijuana, cash, handguns from home

Five men face criminal charges after Statesville police officers seized marijuana, cash and three handguns from a Gay Street home.

According to news release, officers assigned to the SP Crime Reduction Team were conducting a foot patrol in the area of Gay Street on Friday, Oct. 6, when they witnessed two men smoking marijuana on the front porch of the residence at 1952 Gay Street.

Officers then left the area and returned with members of the Patrol Division to speak with those subjects, Capt. Bryan Johnsn said in the news release.

At that time, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside the residence, Johnson said. The subjects were detained and, after a search warrant was obtained, officers conducted a search of the residence, according to the news release.

Several items related to the use, sale and deliver of marijuana were found inside and outside of the residence, Johnson said.

The officers seized as evidence 40.3 grams of marijuana, $3,282 in U.S. currency and three handguns, including one reported stolen, according to the news release.

Facing charges are:

Anthony Caldwell, 22, of Statesville was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell or deiver marijuana, possession of stolen firearm, possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia and three counts of possession of firearm by convicted felon. His bond was set at $10,000.

Christopher Jones, 21, of Statesville was arrested and charged with possession of stolen firearm, possession with intent to sell or deiver marijuana, and possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $2,500.

Adam Laghrida, 19, of Statesville was arrested and charged with possession of stolen firearm, possession with intent to sell or deiver marijuana and possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $2,500.

Anagee Chambers, 17, of Statesville was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell or deiver marijuana, possession of stolen firearm and possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $5,000.

Rick Chambers, 24, of Statesville, was also arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell or deiver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling place, felony controlled substance and possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $10,000.
