The snow swirling outside of City Hall on Friday night may not have been real, but the holiday spirit in the air was. Families filled the streets of downtown for the Holiday Shop & Stroll Spectacular, which included a tree lighting, visits with Santa, carriage rides, carolers, marshmallow roasting and even a train. Other holiday events planned for downtown include:

COLLEGE WINTER BAND CONCERT - Monday, December 4 @ 7:30 pm
Come enjoy a variety of holiday music performed by the talented Mitchell Community Band. This event is free and open to the public at Shearer Hall.


HOLIDAY MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA -
Tuesday, December 5 @ 7 - 9 pm
An evening of holiday music at Shearer Hall provided by the Mitchell Community College Chorus, Jazz Ensemble, and Concert Band. The concert will include performances by Mitchell’s own performance ensembles, which feature student musicians, as well as community musicians.


HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGE RIDES Sponsored by R. Gregory Jewelers -
Friday, December 8
R. Gregory Jewelers will sponsor carriage rides on December 1, 8, 15, & 22 in front of their store on West Broad Street with all proceeds going to Purple Heart Homes.


A CHRISTMAS CAROL - A DOWNTOWN WALKING TOUR -
December 8 & 9 @ Departing Every Half Hour from 6:00 - 8:30 pm
Theatre Statesville is bringing Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol to life in Downtown Statesville on December 8 & 9 and 15 & 16. Described as a “progressive play,” this unique format will have scenes from the beloved story performed at various Downtown locations. Each tour group will be led by its own narrator as they follow Ebenezer Scrooge through his night of reckoning with the three Spirits of Christmas. Tickets available online at www.statesvilletheater.com.STATESVILLE CHRISTMAS PARADE - Sunday, December 10 @ 3 pm Get in the holiday spirit with the Christmas parade, held in Downtown Statesville and sponsored by the 30th Masonic District of North Carolina. HOLIDAY POPS CONCERT- Thursday, December 14 @ 7:30 pm
The City of Statesville and Opus Financial Advisors welcome back The Greensboro Symphony Orchestra to the Statesville Civic Center for an evening of holiday music! Purchase tickets at the Civic Center for $20 or reserve a table by purchasing 8 tickets. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show begins at 7:30 pm. Cash bar – beer and wine.

33RD ANNUAL WALK-IN MESSIAH - Sunday, December 17 @ 3 - 5 pm
Happening at First Presbyterian Church and presented by Mitchell Community College, the Christmas portion of Handel’s beloved Messiah will be performed with chorus, soloists, piano, and organ. Singers needed in the chorus! Singing participants are asked to arrive at 1:45 pm.
