Iredell Arts Council to feature Amy Sullivan's 'Little Works'
Statesville artist Amy Sullivan will offer her unique perspective on the region’s landscapes in a new exhibit opening Nov. 16 at the Iredell Arts Council.
Titled “Little Works,” the exhibit will feature 30 original paintings on paper with oil and wax medium.
Iredell Arts Council Director Rogelio Calvo said the series of painting was created by Sullivan specifically for the exhibit.
“(The paintings) are exemplary of Sullivan’s work with her deceivingly expressionistic spontaneous surface and strong imaging detail,” Calvo wrote on the Arts Council’s Facebook page.
On her website, Sullivan says her goal is to make her artwork approachable and enjoyable. "Although in many ways they are studies in simplicity, Amy’s paintings draw the viewer in with their moody complexity. Textural and dimensional, luminous and intriguing, they capture snapshots of emotion that allow the imagination to soar,” the website states.
“Little Works” will open on Nov. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Iredell Arts Council/The Old Jail, 201 S. Meeting Street, Statesville. Admission is free. To learn more about the Arts Council, visit www.iredellartscouncil.org.
