Team Adkins was out in force on Saturday in support of Cindy Adkins, who is fighting the battle of her life with stage 4 cancer.
Wearing special pink race shirts, Adkins’ supporters were among the 100 runners who took part in the Statesville Family YMCA’s Stomp the Grapes 5K at Daveste Vineyards. Theday also included food, live music and yoga. Ten percent of the proceeds will go to help cover costs of Adkins' treatment expenses.
Adkins said has been overwhelmed by the community’s love as she has faced this second round with cancer.
“Over the years I guess I have interacted with a lot more people than I once thought through my volunteering with Rainbow Kidz,” she said. "The support of this community has been overwhelming - the guys in town dyeing their hair pink, events like this.”
While the treatments are difficult, Adkins is keeping her fighting spirit strong.
“I will not quit. I will not give up,” promised Atkins. "There’s some tough days, but I’ve still got too much stuff to do, way too much stuff to do."
