Rainbow Kidz to offer summer grief groups
Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County’s (HPCIC) program Rainbow Kidz will be holding summer grief groups at the Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont.
Rainbow Kidz serves children suffering from grief and related issues. The goal is to move beyond consoling children to teaching them healthy coping mechanisms and proving them education about grief. Rainbow Kidz will offer grief counseling to Boys & Girls members during their summer camp.
Weekly grief groups will begin June 29 and run for 6 weeks. There will be two groups: one serving teens and one serving children that are elementary school age. Rainbow Kidz is the unique pediatric program of HPCIC.
Leigh Ann Darty, LCSW Rainbow Kidz Director and Shelly Luttman, LCSW Rainbow Kidz Grief Counselor, presented the program at the National Alliance of Grieving Children Symposium in Richmond, Va. The NAGC is a nationwide network of professional working in the pediatric bereavements field. The symposium hosted professionals, institutions and volunteers who promote best practices, educational programming, and critical resources to facilitate the mental, emotional and physical health of grieving children and their families.
