Zaxby's plans to reopen in June

Zaxby’s lovers, your wait is almost over. After nearly a year, the restaurant is set to open early June, according to Zaxby’s field marketing consultant Ashely Osborne.

The Statesville location, located on Sullivan Road, has had an interesting journey.

After a fire caused heavy damage, the restaurant closed on June 8, 2016. The city approved plans to build a new 3,847-square-foot restaurant on the site four months later.

The fire-damaged building was demolished on Jan. 23.

“We decided to do scrap and rebuild of the site instead of a remodel,” Osborne said.

The rebuild will incorporate the franchise’s retro, farmhouse design. Décor includes Edison bulb lamps, galvanized tin accents, exposed brick walls, and open wood-beam ceilings. Other changes include operation enhancements like more efficient kitchen equipment and improved front-of- house traffic flow.

A grand opening date has not yet been set as the parking lot at the site still needs to be completed.

Once an opening date is announced, people can expect a large celebration of the location’s opening with the Zaxby’s mascot, cupcakes and deals.

The first 100 people in line will receive Zaxby’s Deck of Deals, a stack of deals allowing customers a free menu item a week for a year. Customers should be in line by 10:30 a.m. to get a chance to win, advises Osborne.

The location is looking to hire 50 employees at the Statesville location. Interested applicants can apply at
