Owner planning to demolish, rebuild Signal Hill McDonald's

McDonald’s franchise owner Mike Neader announced plans this week to tear down and rebuild the fast-food restaurant located at 110 Signal Hill Drive.
Neader has purchased the Pizza Hut property located at 106 Signal Hill Drive and will incorporate that property into the expansion.
“It was time to do a major remodel or, as luck has it, to expand the parking and building,” Neader said of the opportunity to purchase the neighboring property. “So we will rebuild.”
The existing McDonald’s was built in 1975 and underwent a remodel in 2000.
“This is the third time that I’ve helped to build a store on this site,” said Neader, who was 15 when he helped his father and then-owner, Jim, with the first restaurant located at the site. “That’s what happens when you love what you do.”
Neader’s father opened the first McDonald’s in Statesville in 1975. Following in his father’s footsteps, Neader now owns nine McDonald’s locations, spread throughout Statesville, Troutman, Mooresville and Cornelius.
Future plans include the demolition of both the McDonald’s restaurant and Pizza Hut building to allow for the expansion. The project will be similar to the Highway 90 McDonald’s expansion, which opened this past April after the demolition of both the McDonald’s restaurant and Shiki Japanese restaurant. In its place, a 5,300-square-foot McDonald’s was constructed.
The Signal Hill location rebuild is slated to have a similar design to the Highway 90 location with a few additions.
The location is scheduled for demolition next spring. Neader is hoping for a fall 2018 reopening.
